Data - 101

Welcome back!  In our last blog we introduced the idea of protecting data.  Before we go any further, let’s start at the beginning.  First, what is data?


In its simplest form, data is information that is processed or stored on a computer.  At any point, data is in one of three states:

  1. At Rest

  2. In Use

  3. In Transit

Why is this important to know? 


Data is valuable and can be used to malicious ends.  All data is at risk of exposure either through human error or bad intentions.  Each data state requires a different level of security to protect it.
